A few times a year, Planet Earth is treated to a close-up view of the moon when it reaches its closest point to earth. Behold the Supermoon!

Because it is so close to Earth, it appears much bigger and brighter than a regular moon.

The best time to enjoy this phenomena is just after moonrise, when the moon is low on the horizon.

And what better place to enjoy this spectacular view than whilst skiing and hiking on the groomed slopes of Grauberg aboard the Full Moon Backcountry Ski Tour.

Following in the footsteps of the Flims hoteliers back in the 1930’s, who used to put on their skis and walk up to Segneshütte after work, the full moon walking starts at twilight and finishes well after dark. The trail route has been chosen for its spectacular views of the full moon glowing over the Alpine scenery of white powdery slopes beyond.

Starting at the mountain station Foppa (cable car Flims - Foppa), hikers will set off on the winter hiking trail over Innerberg to the bridge, Punt Desch, and then onto the Graubergpiste to reach the top at Segneshütte. For the descent, swap the boots for skis and descend into the valley on ski run no.10 via Startgels or no. 8 via Innerberg onto Runca and down to the Flims-Dorf valley station.

The Full Moon Backcountry Ski Tour will take place Saturday, 4 February, 2023.
